Danny Mayer has the golden touch. Through his Union Square Hospitality Group, the New York restaurateur runs some of NYC’s most beloved restaurants. The Unions Square Cafe was his beginning launch, the Modern at the Museum of Modern Art, Gramercy Tavern, and Blue Smoke. His Shake Shack, the burger chain with outposts internationally (from a local suburb to Dubai) Danny is known for the quality of food, well trained [...]

Markets of Local Abundance

By |June 17th, 2014|Business, Food, Health and Wellness, Loyalty, New Businesses, Selling, Travel|

Each day in Provence there is a market to find the most fabulous ingredients. To quote the French, “Rather have a little bit of  great food than a lot of ‘not’ the freshest.  We support farmers we trust to provide us only the best.”  Loyalty at its finest.

There is a hierarchy as to positioning of vendors…location-location-location. Some have been in the same place for 30 years. New vendors are [...]

Olive Connection

By |June 9th, 2014|Education, Food, Health and Wellness, New Businesses, Travel|

I am passionate about Olives and Olive Oil. I use a lot of it. I try all kinds of brands, and always stop at olive oil stores in every city I visit. Crazy as it sounds, Morry and CJ and I  went to a 3 day Olive Oil Seminar and Tasting in NYC this summer. Famous tasters from around the world judged the best olive oils and gave awards. [...]

How women burn calories in France. Spinning… This video is will be worth your time. Will only take  a minute. It’s hilarious!

I am off to a cooking school in Provence with Patricia Wells.  I purchased her cookbook Patricia Wells At Home In Provence in 1996 when it first was released and have since then wanted to go to her cooking school.   I met her last year on a [...]

SWEET CAROLINE-A…North

By |May 21st, 2014|Business, Family, Fashion, Food, Health and Wellness, Home Decor, Inspiration, Selling, Travel, Women's Issues|

I now understand the meaning of Carolina Blue having spent 96 hours in North Carolina on the outer banks on Emerald Isle, with 3 of my dearest friends.  We worked together 35 years ago as merchants, buyers, designers, with a love of retail and just selling stuff.  How the colors of nature influence our choices in business and decorating our homes.  We marveled on how the palate of blues, [...]

Let Them Eat Kale/Carrots…or Cake?

By |April 28th, 2014|Business, Fashion, Food, Health and Wellness, Leadership, New Businesses, Politics, Sports, Travel|

I’m so confused on what to eat.  Too many rules, and too many things to remember.

We have the DETOX foods…I could use those, as you know I love my wine…

They are artichokes, citrus, sunflower seeds, lentils, garlic, red pepper, walnuts, turmeric, cucumber, broccoli.

Then there are the CLEANSE rules…some say juice for 3 days and that washes out the toxins.

Some say no meat for 7 days…(me, the carnivore, craved a piece [...]

42 and Still Counting!

By |April 1st, 2014|Business, Family, Food, Technology, Travel, Uncategorized|

Most people go someplace warm to get away from the winter blues.  Not us…we always go north and this year it was Quebec City.  We spent our honeymoon here 42 years ago so instead of going to an Elvis Chapel, (he really wants to do this) we stayed at the same hotel, ate at the same restaurants, walked the same streets, shopped and discovered new shops and markets.  What [...]

Rocky Mountain High

By |February 25th, 2014|Business, Fashion, Food, Health and Wellness, New Businesses, Travel|

When in Rome?
Last week I was in Durango, Colorado, where my son lived for 7 years. I do love it there, sunny every day, blue sky, crisp clean air to breathe, and a sense of freedom. The style I call Arty Cowboy. A high school friend, Tari, lives nearby, so we met and started planning our 50th reunion. At lunch we asked our waiter about the closest dispensary. [...]

Creative Business Models

By |January 7th, 2014|Business, Food, Leadership, Loyalty|

You all know how much I love Vermont…here are examples of three businesses that have different approaches to their success that I find inspiring.

The Woodstock Farmers Market is the place I visit every time I go to Vermont…the best produce, baked goods, and assortment of outstanding products, wine selection, fish, and sandwiches… everything you need for the weekend. They received an award in NYC as the premier specialty market [...]
